Need Emotional Balance? Try This.

If you keep losing your sh*t, there’s an easy and practical way to manage your mood.

My YouTube algorithm served up something delightful this week: a video on the Japanese philosophy of colour, or iro as it is known.

As with a lot of Japanese concepts, their approach to colour—as a mood, a moment in time, or a memory—is enchanting.

It’s a wonderful reminder that colour is so much more nuanced than it first appears. It’s not just aesthetic, it’s energetic. It’s not just objective, it’s subjective.

And it’s a language, one that speaks when words just won’t do—and one that your soul uses to communicate with you.

And if you want to maintain a state of emotional equilibrium, colour is your new dictionary.

When The Top-Down Approach Fails

Most people try to manipulate their emotions with mindset work, affirmations, or overthinking. That’s all happening in the head. But emotions don’t live in the head. They live in the body.

Colour reaches the body first.

Before you label a feeling, your nervous system has already reacted to your environment. Light enters your eyes, hits the brain, and triggers chemical and emotional responses. This isn’t mystical. It’s biology. Certain colours stimulate, soothe, energise, or ground you. You are responding to colour all day long whether you realise it or not.

Emotional recalibration is simply the process of bringing yourself back into a state that feels regulated, clear, and aligned. Colour is one of the fastest ways to do that because it bypasses mental chatter. You see it, you feel it, and your system adjusts. Instantly.

The problem is most people use colour randomly. They pick what they “like” or what’s trending. That’s surface level. But when you align colours with your own natural frequency, magic happens. Personal colour reflects your patterns, your emotional defaults, and how you process the world.

That’s where Hue-man Design™ comes in.

WTF Is Hue-man Design?

Hue-man Design™ is a framework for understanding yourself through your relationship with colour. Your core colours reveal how you’re wired emotionally and energetically. They show where you feel safe, how you express yourself, and what brings you back into balance when life knocks you sideways.

Instead of forcing yourself to journal for an hour (yawn) or repeat affirmations you don’t believe, you can work with colour.

And sometimes, your soul instinctively knows what you need, without your conscious mind even clocking it.

Quick example:

I was on a video call with a mate today and she was wearing a bright orange hoodie. She said she’d been feeling a bit low vibe and needed an energy boost—and a dose of orange was doing the trick.

What she didn’t realise, until I mentioned it, was that her Soul Colour is Indigo and its shadow frequency is sadness, introspection, and a desire to be in hermit-mode.

Orange is not only the complementary colour for indigo, it turns out it’s her Birth, Growth, AND Destiny colour as well.

No wonder orange was the antidote! Her soul was unconsciously guiding her back into balance so she can get on with being the awesome hue-man she is.

Now she knows exactly what she needs any time she feels off.

Fade to black…

The colours around you are constantly calibrating your inner world.

Hue-man Design™ makes self-awareness practical and tangible. It gives you a language for your emotions without endless analysis. You start to recognise your patterns faster. You adjust faster. You trust yourself more.

When you understand your colours, you understand your emotional blueprint. And when you can recalibrate your emotions, you change how you show up in your life, and how you manifest.

Self-knowledge doesn’t have to be complicated. Sometimes it starts with simply noticing the colours that bring you back to yourself—and letting them have their say.
