How To Recognise Your Shadow Self
Despite how it sounds, understanding your shadow is a game-changer
I just created a new YouTube channel, on impulse.
The thought flashed into my head so I acted on it immediately.
And this is what I do: ideas come, I act, and then get overwhelmed.
Maybe you have a similar pattern. Or maybe you have a tendency to overthink everything so much you give yourself anxiety. Maybe you know exactly what you want to say but stop yourself, because you’re afraid of the consequences.
This isn’t your limiting beliefs. It’s not a confidence problem. And it’s definitely not your fault.
It’s your soul shadow.
Your shadow isn’t something to fix, bypass, or transcend. It’s information. And in Hue‑man Design™, it’s just as important to recognise your soul colour shadows as it is your soul colour itself.
What the Shadow Actually Is
I’ve talked a lot about soul colours and how working with yours can maximise your strengths. But there are two sides to every coin.
The good news is, your shadow is not your “bad side.” It’s simply the distorted expression of your soul colour when you’re under stress, misaligned, or living out of sync with your true nature.
In other words, it’s the part of you that takes over when you’re dis-regulated.
Every colour has a high-frequency expression and a shadow frequency. The shadow shows up when your nervous system is overloaded.
For example: Red souls are designed for action, momentum, and desire. At their best, they’re energised, decisive, and driven. In shadow, that same fire turns into frustration, impatience, and anger—often directed inward.
Same energy. Different state.
The shadow isn’t the opposite of your power. It’s your power under pressure.
In my case, as a Magenta Soul, when I’m regulated I’m in creative flow—and there’s a playfulness to my energy. But acting on impulse is a sign that my frequency is out of whack.
Don’t Hate On Your Shadow
There’s no shame in acting from your shadow soul. It’s going to happen from time to time because that’s just life. The key is to notice when it’s leading the way.
Most people try to override their shadow with positivity, productivity, or spiritual bypassing.
It doesn’t work.
Because the shadow isn’t a mindset problem. It’s a frequency problem.
It takes the helm when your field is overloaded and overstimulated.
That’s when self-doubt creeps in. That’s when you hesitate, overthink, do something reckless, or lose your shit for no reason.
Your shadow isn’t trying to sabotage your magic.
In fact, it’s almost the opposite. Your soul wants so badly for you to be your best that it tries too hard and takes it too far.
Power Comes From Integration, Not Elimination
The goal isn’t to “get rid” of your shadow.
It’s to understand it.
When you recognise the shadow side of your Soul Colour something important happens:
You stop pathologising your reactions
You understand your triggers without self-judgement
You reclaim the energy that’s been locked in defence
The shadow loses its grip when it’s named.
Because what’s conscious can be regulated.
From Self-Sabotage to Self-Trust
Knowing your shadow side doesn’t make you weaker.
It restores your agency.
Instead of fighting yourself, you start working with your design. You learn how to bring your frequency back into balance—not by forcing change, but by understanding what tipped it over the edge in the first place.
That’s where your magic returns.
Not as a performance.
But as embodied power.
Your shadow isn’t the enemy. It’s the part of you that’s over-activated.
Hue-man Design™ exists to make this simple. It shows you your core Soul Colour and its shadowed expression so you can see, in plain language, how you operate when you’re aligned—and how you behave when you’re not.
It’s not about fixing yourself or becoming “better.” It’s about understanding your internal design, recognising when you’re out of balance and knowing exactly how to bring yourself back into coherence.
Once you can see your pattern, it stops running you.
Fade to black…
My impulse to create a new YouTube channel wasn’t wrong. It showed me what’s really going on so that I can recalibrate.
Because when you learn your shadow tendencies, you can catch yourself before you fall. Or do something stupid.
Kx.
