From Drab To Fab: How Colour Therapy Changed My Life
Why I’m never going back to black and how you can get colour conscious too!

Before I discovered colour therapy, my life was ok but I felt like I was just treading water, moving without actually getting anywhere.
After years of healing I finally had peace but lacked any kind of joie de vivre. Everything was just ‘meh’. I was invisible.
Then I discovered some old school reports and everything made sense.
Since I changed my relationship with colour, I’ve manifested magazine articles, podcast appearances, my ideal car, new friends, my dream home and found my true calling.
In this post I’m sharing my personal journey with colour therapy and how I am now using it to help you, too.
We’ll explore:
• The principles of colour therapy
• How colour therapy changed my life
• Getting colour conscious
The principles of colour therapy
Colour therapy, also known as chromotherapy, is a holistic healing practice that dates back thousands of years and uses the power of colours to promote physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being.
Colour is simply visible energy and we are surrounded by it everywhere, all the time. It has a profound effect on our mood and can influence our behaviour so why not learn to harness this energy and use it to your advantage?
The principles of colour therapy are based on the concept that different colours have different energetic frequencies that can affect our bodies and minds in various ways.
I have incorporated three key principles into the Chromagik colour therapy ethos:
• Emotional Healing
• Vibrational Alignment
• Energy Balancing
Colour therapy emphasises the interconnectedness between your external environment and internal well-being. By understanding how colours can affect your emotions, thoughts, and physical health, you can utilise their healing powers for greater harmony and vitality in your life.
How colour therapy changed my life
Up until about six months ago my entire wardrobe consisted of items that were either white, grey or most of all, black.
My home was decorated in the same, punctuated here and there by some warm neutrals. An entirely black hallway raised eyebrows among the few people who visited.
Even in my artwork I always gravitated towards the same muted palette.

Deep down I’ve always loved colour but was somehow ‘afraid’ of it and didn’t really know why.
Now, I’m creating some beautiful pieces in vibrant rainbow tones, I’ve just ordered a hot pink velvet sofa and I’ve zhuz’d up my wardrobe with some colourful t-shirts and even a pair of bright red trousers (which I’ve actually worn out in public!! 😱 😱)
So what changed?
Fade to black…
I’d already begun working on through a few of my colour blocks (I had some specific negative associations with blue and yellow which needed addressing!) but it was when I came across some old school reports that things really shifted.
The first was from my primary school when we lived in Essex. I was about 5 or 6 and all the teachers had written what a bright, chatty, friendly and helpful little student I was.
I remember around that time I had a cute little top and skirt combo in a joyful turquoise colour that I wore all the time. I loved my red trainers with the rainbows on the side and literally ANYTHING that was magenta pink (no surprise as that’s my Soul Colour!).
Then I read another one from just a few years later and the difference was quite shocking: I was too quiet, I needed to speak up more, I didn’t get involved in any class activities. I only had a few friends.
By then we had moved to the Isle of Wight. I didn’t want to go and I hated it. A lot of bad shit went down while we lived there and I could see from the difference in these two school reports that this was the reason I went from being a colourful child to living in black and white.

Black is the colour of protection and without even knowing it I was using it as a shield. By wearing black, I wouldn’t stand out, I wouldn’t attract any attention, I would be hidden. I would be safe.
Even after years of doing healing work, it was this realisation that prompted me to make some drastic changes: no matter how hard I worked, as long as I continued with this drab, monochromatic lifestyle I would always feel stuck, listless and, most of all, invisible.
Getting colour conscious
So, I made the decision to ditch the black and I now live a colour conscious life. This means I choose colours to surround myself with depending on what my needs are. If I am low on confidence or am struggling to focus, a hit of yellow in my energy field gives me a boost. If I’m too in my head and need to get grounded I’ll bring in some red.
By looking at your subconscious associations, acknowledging them and releasing them, you can learn to work with colour on an energetic level to meet your emotional and mental needs. Knowing what colour to use, when to use it and how is the key to maintaining balance.

Colour therapy can unlock you on so many different levels and there are so many ways to incorporate it into your life. While more research is needed to fully understand the mechanisms behind its effects, there is no denying the powerful impact that colour therapy can have on our overall health and happiness.
Letting go of my metaphorical black security blanket and embracing the full spectrum has opened up so much untapped potential in me. I’m no longer afraid of being seen, in fact I want to be seen, and, for the future of my business, I need to be seen!
Just like Dorothy going from Kansas to Oz, dreams really do come true when you go over the rainbow. I may not have the ruby slippers but I do have red trousers and there’s no going back to black!
