October Colour Palette
3 key colours to work with this month
October. It’s a bit of a funny old month isn’t it?
It’s kind of the yearly equivalent to that period between Christmas and New Year - you know, where you’re not quite sure what day it is and don’t really know what to do with yourself.
In my mind, October is neither one thing or the other. It’s not summer, but there are still some warm(ish) days here and there. It’s not cold enough to put the heating on. It’s just a bit…uninspiring.
However, that’s not necessarily a bad thing.
Because not much happens in October (apologies to all those with birthdays this month!), it provides us with a great opportunity to rest. It’s very much a month to reset, check in with yourself and bring everything into balance - it is Libra season, after all!
The colour palette I’ve created for October encourages introspection and healing so let’s look at the three anchor colours and how you can get the most out of them…
Midnight blue
This dark, inky shade symbolises intuition, contemplation and devotion.
So called because it is the colour of the night sky, midnight blue is a wonderful colour to aid sleep: it is deeply restful and healing, it calms the mind and opens the way for our imagination and intuition to take over.
Midnight blue is ideal for meditation, yoga nidra or NSDR (non-sleep deep rest) practices.
Ice Blue
The colour of crystal clear glacial waters, this pale blue hue invokes feelings of peace and tranquility.
Like all blues it represents truth and honesty but with this particular shade comes acute cognitive clarity making it a wonderful colour for doing some inner work.
October is a good month to reconnect with yourself, your goals and ideals. Ice blue will make it easier for you to reduce the mental clutter and express yourself clearly in a gentle and open way..
This colour is perfect for moments when you need more self-awareness, whether for journaling, goal-setting, or quiet reflection.
Pebble Grey
Just like the zen stones in the image, grey represents neutrality, parity and detachment.
It provides a sense of composure by neutralising emotional highs and lows, offering a balanced perspective.
October can feel a little bit ‘in-betweeny’ - the joy of the summer is over and the excitement of Christmas is still a while off (despite what the supermarkets and advertisers convey!) but, although it can sometimes be considered drab and boring, grey cultivates patience and creates a safe space to pause and reflect.
Grey is great for bringing a sense of equilibrium into environments and provides a stable base for healing and soul-searching.
For an extra hit of self-compassion I’ve added a nurturing rose pink to complement the coolness. See? It’s all about balance.
However you choose to use this palette, together these colours help release tension, calm the mind, and offer a sense of peaceful balance during a month that naturally encourages quietude, deep thought and reflection.
