Is Manifesting Real? Yes, But It’s Not What You Think!

It’s rooted in science but the magic still happens. Here’s the proof!

I can say with confidence manifesting is totally a thing and it absolutely does work. But - and I’m going a little rogue here - I think there are two types of manifesting.

I’ve manifested some pretty epic shit over the last couple of years. Some of which happened as a result of following your basic manifesting rules, like intention setting, visualising and taking aligned action.

And that is what I call conscious manifesting.

But some things have come about that seem like actual magic. I’m talking about the random, ‘how is that ever going to happen?’ shit, that has made me truly believe that we really do co-create our reality with an unseen universal force.

Strap in, this is gonna be a wild ride.

Conscious manifesting

We are energetic beings - even our thoughts and emotions carry an electrical charge -and that energy attracts stuff.

Manifesting works because you’re basically a human antenna, receiving whatever is on the same frequency as the one you’re emitting.

You’re manifesting all the time whether you know it or not. And sometimes it snowballs.

Like when you wake up in a grump, then you spill your coffee, you get stuck in traffic which makes you late so you have to work through lunch, which makes you even more pissed off so you shout at Maureen in human resources, and you wind up getting fired.

Ok, so that’s quite a dramatic escalation, but you get the point.

On the flip side, there are days when everything just goes your way - you wake up full of beans, you get every green light, a free coffee, the best parking space, your annoying coworker quits and you get promoted to their job which means you have more money so you can move to your dream house, etc, etc.

The way to get what you want is to be intentional and that’s where it becomes more about the science than the spiritual.

Your brain has this sneaky little thing called the Reticular Activating System (RAS). It’s like a filter that decides what’s worth paying attention to.

When you set a clear intention—like manifesting your dream career or financial freedom—it’s like telling your RAS, “Hey, this is important.”

It gets stored in your subconscious mind and suddenly, you start noticing opportunities, ideas, or people that were actually there the whole time.

In other words you’re tuning your personal radio station to Manifest FM and can take the appropriate action to make stuff happen.

And that, in my opinion, is conscious manifesting.

Magical manifesting

As I mentioned, since I began all this manifesting malarkey a few years ago some incredible stuff has happened, most of which was a result of applying all the usual key principles of Manifesting 101.

There have been the small things like getting the parking spaces and the free coffees, small amounts of money here and there.

The biggest by far has been manifesting my dream home, which I have written about at length in a previous post so I won’t go into that here.

Then there was the time I manifested being a guest on one of my favourite podcasts, which I have also mentioned before.

I manifested being a published writer - Psychologies magazine was top of my list at the time and it became a reality in October 2022.

These big manifestations are all conscious manifestations: I knew what I wanted and went after it.

But there are also what I call magical manifestations.

These are things that just seemed to magically happen, like money showing up exactly when I need it, or like last month, when I owed my brother £140 and I somehow got an extra £140 in my pay packet.

Then there was the time I manifested meeting Emma Mumford, one of the UK’s leading manifestation experts. This is a bit of a bonkers one.

I was exhibiting at the Mind Body Spirit Festival in London and I knew she was going to be there to give a talk. I decided about a month beforehand that she was going to visit my stand and have a chat, and I would be able to tell her I manifested it.

Long story short, it happened pretty much how I visualised it.

But afterwards I couldn’t help thinking how unlikely the whole thing was. I mean, I had literally looked at the clock that day and thought, “oh she’ll be getting ready to do her talk about now,” and then I looked up and there she was, walking towards me!

We chatted, I fan-girl’d rather embarrassingly, took a picture and then off she went.

If I had been with a customer, or looking the other way or people had walked past, I would’ve missed her.

And that is magical manifesting.

Another intriguing example I can give you is my car.

I know nothing about cars. For me it’s reassuring to have one that is brand new and reliable so I have leased an Audi A1 for for about 10 years (I’m nothing if not loyal, and when I find something I like I stick with it!)

I’ve had a couple of different ones in that time and I love them but when it came to renew again in 2022 I started fantasising about something a little bigger and set my sights on a Q2 model. I even found a picture of one and put it on my vision board.

I went to the dealership and took a test drive. It felt massive compared to what I was used to, and on reflection I concluded that I didn’t need a car that big.

Over the next few days I found myself thinking “if only Audi made something in between an A1 and a Q2, that would be perfect!”

They don’t. But when I went back to the dealership, the salesman seemed to have performed some kind of magic trick.

He had found an A1 model that was slightly different to the usual ones. He explained that it was “a bit like a mini-SUV, kind of in between an A1 and a Q2.”

It was the only one in the UK. And it was in London.

What the actual eff?!

I’ve had it for two years and it is perfect. Sometimes the Universe gives you something even better than you thought you wanted.

So, although I’m a huge proponent of conscious manifesting - ie, taking all the logical steps and applying all the techniques to get what you want, I think we also have to accept that there is always another invisible force helping us along the way.

At the end of the day I believe it all comes down to energy.

And if we’re putting out the right kind of energy - one that is positive, loving and grateful - not only do we get what we desire, but the Universe will reward us with a little magic of its own.
