Your Color Choices Aren’t Random—They’re Messages
Relapse, karmic course-correction, and how to hear your soul
I have felt more alive in the last two weeks than I have done in years.
Ideas and downloads are coming so fast it’s hard to keep up (and they’re pretty wild!!). My creativity has exploded. And I am lit up by life again.
Because I relapsed.
My name’s Kerry, and I’m a blackaholic. It’s been zero days since I last wore black.
And I’m really ok with it.
Your soul is trying to get your attention
I’ve spent the last few years exploring the psychological and emotional impact of colour and I 100% agree with Carl Jung’s observation that colour is a language. It’s how our soul communicates with us. Because we don’t just see it, we feel it.
I also believe that we’re drawn to different colours at different times in life to help us understand and manage our emotions and energy, and I’ve developed my original Hue-man Design™ system to make that simple to do.
In the process I foolishly thought that because I was now someone who consciously works with colour frequencies I needed to eliminate the one colour that has dominated my life: black.
Mining my own subconscious revealed that I had been using it as a shield—as protection, and a way of staying invisible—and it felt like a part of me that needed to be released now that I was no longer depressed and self-destructive.
So that’s what I did. But like an addict that’s gone cold turkey, I still craved it. Because it’s part of who I am.
Black represents the shadow, and if you’re familiar with the work of Carl Jung then you’ll know that you shouldn’t suppress, prohibit or discard the shadow—you must integrate it.
Back to black
For someone who writes about identity and becoming your true self, I’ve felt a bit of a fraud because I banished my dark side. As a magenta soul I am a chameleon—my vibe changes constantly, depending on my mood and environment. One day I want to be barefoot and boho, the next I’m channeling Victoria Beckham, but I feel most me when I’m in a scruffy t-shirt and cargo pants, listening to rock music and generally being a bit feral.
So this time, when black called, I answered. And fuck does it feel good!
It’s like my soul was saying, “ok, enough of the shit. This is who you are so stop ignoring it!”
I don’t know if the solar eclipse/new moon energy had anything to do with it but I feel like I’ve been given the chance for a do-over, to reframe my subconscious associations with black.
Switching it up
Over the last two weeks I’ve been emotionally time-travelling back to 1998 when I was 21. It was a pivotal year—my entire world view got shattered and everything I thought I wanted went out the window. But it was also an incredibly exciting and expansive time. I I feel like I’m being reminded of who I was then, before I started shrinking myself and hiding in other peoples’ shadows—and my course is being corrected. Sounds bonkers I know, but there have a been a string of synchronicities that are too blatant to ignore.
Returning to that version of me means rediscovering everything I loved back then and that includes black.
So now, I am choosing to let it be my power colour instead of a cloak. I feel stronger, and more confident, more like myself. My real self.
Colour me happy
Once you understand that colour is constantly speaking to you, and guiding you, moving through life becomes so much easier. Feeling drawn to deep reds and browns? Your soul needs more stability and security, so get grounded. Bright reds on the other hand, mean it’s time for action. If green is calling you, you’re being asked to find more harmony and balance. Orange could be saying you need to socialise more or get creative.
Start listening to what your soul is saying and adjust your behaviour accordingly.
And if there’s a colour that keeps calling but you reject it, ask yourself why. It’s likely showing you something important about yourself that you’re missing.
When you can find that part of you, I guarantee you’ll become more alive too.
Kx
