Why Your Manifesting Affirmations Aren’t Working (And What To Do About It)
You’re spiritually gaslighting yourself without even realising!
I’ve read a LOT of personal development books over the last five years.
And I think in pretty much every single one the general advice is to raise your vibration—and this usually involves reciting affirmations.
I get why they can be a good tool—repetition rewires neural pathways and all that—so I’ve written them out, recited them, even created some of my own meditation videos using them. But they’ve just never really worked for me.
Because deep down, I know I’m lying to myself.
It’s the kind of ‘fake it til you make it’ advice that just doesn’t sit well with me. Because here’s the thing no one talks about in the spiritual/self-help/manifestation world:
Pretending to believe something you don’t actually believe is just another form of emotional bypassing.
And it’s a total waste of time until you’ve dealt with the underlying beliefs.
Repeating “I am…[insert emotion]” isn’t going to raising my frequency, it just going to make me feel like a fraud.
If you’re telling yourself everything is great when it really isn’t you’re basically giving the Universe mixed signals and scrambling your frequency.
And how many times have you been told to “just think positive,” “be high vibe,” or “act as if”?
So even when your energy is shaky, when your nervous system is fried, when you’re full of doubt or fear or frustration, you try to force yourself to feel happy because you think that if you’re sad or angry or just feeling a bit crap, the Universe overlook you.
But this kind of toxic positivity definitely won’t help you manifest the life you’re trying to call in.
Why ‘acting as if’ is a fallacy
The whole ‘acting as if’ mentality is a good idea in principle but the problem lies in the nomenclature.
If you’re ‘acting’ you’re still pretending. You’re not fully being it.
So instead of feeling empowered and aligned, you feel like a fake — trying to match a frequency you can’t even find inside yourself.
But here’s the truth that no one tells you in the fluffy world of Pinterest vision boards and Canva-designed manifestation journals:
Being “high vibe” is not the same as being positive.
The Universe only understands and responds to your energy. In my opinion, being high-vibe means living your truth and allowing your emotions to ebb and flow.
You don’t need to fake it till you make it. You need to feel it till you heal it.
Stop Forcing Positivity
Manifestation isn’t about slapping a good vibes Band Aid over your pain. It’s about meeting yourself where you are — and gently shifting your energy in a way that feels true, embodied, and actually works.
That’s where colour comes in.
Colour is frequency. It’s energy made visible. It speaks directly to your nervous system, your emotions, your subconscious mind. And it works.
Instead of forcing joy, you can surround yourself with colours that lift your spirits.
Instead of pretending to be confident, you can anchor into it with a bold colour that backs you up.
Instead of repeating affirmations that don’t feel true, you can tune into a shade that shifts your mood and helps you believe again.
Here’s what that might look like in practice:
If you’re feeling overwhelmed and anxious, reach for restful neutrals or soft greens to calm your nervous system and regulate your breath.
If your self-worth has taken a hit, bring in gold or deep purple to remind you of your inner royalty — your worthiness, your purpose, your sacred presence.
If you’re feeling low-energy and uninspired, add a splash of vibrant orange to your environment or outfit to reawaken your creativity and joy.
This isn’t about colour as a mood enhancer — it’s colour as a mood regulator.
A way to support your energy as it evolves — without bypassing, pretending, or pushing yourself to feel something that just isn’t real yet.
Because here’s the thing:
You don’t manifest what you say you want.
You manifest what you’re vibrating — and colour is the quickest, cleanest way to tune that frequency without trying to trick yourself into false positivity.
Fade to black…
You don’t have to fake it till you make it.
You don’t have to push down your feelings or chant affirmations that make your gut twist.
You just need a better tool for shifting your energy.
A way to move through the emotional static — and back into truth.
Colour is your energetic tuning fork. It’s the secret weapon that’s hidden in plain sight.
So next time someone tells you to just “raise your vibe,” you don’t need to fake a smile and pretend.
You can simply tune into the colour that meets you where you are—and takes you where you want to go.
No acting skills required.
