3 Reasons Why Manifesting Doesn’t Work (When You Want It To)

AKA The Law of Attraction Paradox

So…after I wrote the post about how I manifested £2207 in five days I knew there would be one question on the lips of every skeptic:

“If it’s that easy, how come you’re not doing it all the time?”

It was certainly on mine. I went straight into ‘how can I keep this up?’ mode. And by doing so I put the kibosh on my winning streak.

But let’s be honest—if manifesting worked like Amazon Prime, we’d all be driving Ferraris, swanning around our mansions dripping in diamonds and drowning in bottomless Bolly by now, right?

One click = instant dream delivery. OMG, think of the hedonistic carnage!

But (fortunately?) miracles don’t work on demand. You can’t just call Uber-Manifest and order up another life-changing manifestation the second you’ve landed the last one.

Why not? Because the more you try, the harder it is.

And this, my friends, is the Law of Attraction Paradox. And it’s infuriating AF until you understand why it happens (hedonistic carnage aside).

I’ve done a bit of sleuthing and identified the three main culprits, so let’s rat them out…

1. You Try to Replicate the Process

This was a new epiphany for me. The minute you land a manifestation—say, a the dream client or a ton of cash—you immediately want to know: How did I do that? How can I do it again?

Cue overthinking…

  • Was it the meditation I did that morning?

  • Was it the ‘smells like money’ candle?

  • Was it because I wore my ridiculously bright yellow T-shirt that made me feel confident?

Thing is, manifestation isn’t really a step by step recipe you can follow. It’s energy. And it needs to be allowed to flow.

When you try to replicate a miracle, you move into control mode. You start trying to strong-arm the universe into giving you more. And that vibe is a total buzz kill.

It’s like when your mates call out of the blue, you go out and end up having the most epic time, then you’re all like “let’s do that again!” So you do the same thing the next week, but it’s never as good. Because you’re trying too hard to force it.

That’s exactly what happens when you try to ‘do manifestation’ the way it worked last time.

2. You Get Attached To The Outcome

Attachment is a sneaky little fucker. You put the intention out, but then get wrapped up in all the visualisations and emotions of having the thing, and suddenly—bam!—you become so attached to wanting the thing that your entire frequency shifts into neediness.

And here’s the cosmic law they don’t tell you in The Secret: wanting = not having.

There’s a line as fine as angel’s hair between holding the vision and grasping at it. When you’re fixated on the outcome—refreshing your inbox or your bank account like an over-caffeinated raccoon—the signal you’re broadcasting loud and clear to the universe is: I don’t have it!

Wanting is lack energy, and the universe, being such a people-pleaser, just loves to give you more of what you’ve already got, ie. lack.

Imagine you go on a date with the most amazing person—they’re funny, charming, down to earth and fit AF—but before you’ve even got home you’ve sent them 47 texts in a row because you’re “manifesting” another meet-up.

What are the chances they’ll find that cute? Nope. You’ll be blocked faster than you can say “swipe left” and they’ll be telling all their mates about the psycho they went on a date with.

Attachment repels any prospective suitors. Same with your manifestations.

Here’s the paradox: the less you want it, the more likely it is to show up. And this is such a hard one to get your head around that I’ve written a whole post just on this one thing.

That’s not to say you shouldn’t care. It’s about loosening your grip. Swap desperation for curiosity. Instead of ‘I need this now or my life is doomed’, try ‘Wouldn’t it be fun if this worked out?’.

Playful energy is magnetic. Clingy is not.

3. Your Frequency Isn’t Static

Even if you manage to manifest something incredible, holding the exact frequency that created it is near impossible. Why? Because you’re human.

Your emotions, focus, and energy shift constantly. One day you’re high-vibe, aligned, and feeling on top of the world. The next, you’re stressed about bills, there’s a dead squirrel in your kitchen, you forgot to put your mug under the coffee machine and now it’s just pouring coffee into the tray and all over the worktop (this actually happened to me the other day).

Yep. Life is one big rollercoaster.

This fluctuation makes it hard to stay locked on to the exact vibration you tuned into when you called in your last miracle. It’s not your fault—it’s literally how your nervous system works.

And that’s okay. You’re not supposed to live in some constant, sparkly state of perfection. Manifestation isn’t about being high-vibe 24/7; it’s about becoming aware of when you’re out of alignment and recalibrating accordingly.

This is where I like to use the old radio analogy. One day you’re listening to ambient sounds, the next you’re bopping along to some 90s cheese, maybe the next you need to rage so it’s a death metal kinda day.

The point is that you can tune the radio to however you want to feel. And manifesting works the same way. The emotions you need to feel to call in the cash may not be the same as if you’re looking for love.

You just to recognise how you’re feeling and retune to the right frequency if need be.

The Law of Attraction Paradox

So here’s why you can’t manifest miracles on tap:

  1. Replication — you try to force it, killing the vibe.

  2. Attachment — you signal lack, attracting more lack.

  3. Emotional flux — your frequency naturally shifts, making consistency tough.

Together, these create the Law of Attraction Paradox. The more you try to control and repeat the magic, the more it slips through your fingers.

So What Do You Do Instead?

The good news is: miracles don’t stop just because you can’t order them like lattes. They flow when you learn to relax.

  • Ditch the formula mindset. Each new manifestation is a one-off piece, not a production line.

  • Practice detachment. Want it—but don’t need it. The vibe is flirty, not desperate.

  • Ride the emotional waves. Don’t beat yourself up for not being high vibe 24/7. It’s just not possible. Instead, notice, let it play out, and retune your frequency when you need to.

The trick is to lean into trust, not tension. Miracles like to sneak in when you’re laughing, relaxing, or dancing around your kitchen to Take That—not when you’re strategically plotting them on a spreadsheet like some crazed accounts manager.

Fade to black…

Manifestation isn’t about control—it’s about flow. If you’re trying to force something into existence, you’re missing the point.

The point is to be present. To meander, not march. To ride the rollercoaster without resistance. The paradox is what keeps miracles feeling miraculous.

So next time you catch yourself getting all grippy, remember: you don’t manifest with a clenched fist. You manifest with an open palm.

Kx.
