Why I’m ‘Unmanifesting’ This January

Going into the new year with all guns blazing is the fastest way to burnout. Step in to the void instead.

Usually, in the period between Christmas and January 1st, I’m full of anticipation and excitement. But this year it’s different.

Normally, I think about all the things I want to manifest in the coming twelve months, set goals, script outcomes. Visualise how amazing my life will be.

I’d watch all the “manifest your best year yet!” videos and sign up to all the free workshops thinking that yes, it is going to be my best year yet.

But this year I haven’t done any of that.

Instead, I’m un-manifesting.

What’s changed?

Last March I quit Instagram. And in December I decided to stay off Facebook too. Because I realised that the things I thought I wanted—to speak on stages, to host events, to be known—aren’t really what my soul desires.

They were things I thought I needed to do because that’s what the people on my feeds were doing.

They were driven by ego. And really, they’re just means goals anyway. The end goal, or Big Vision, or Delulu Dream, is to get Hue-man Design™ into the zeitgeist. For it to take its place alongside astrology, human design and the enneagram as a way for people to understand themselves better.

How I choose live as a result of that is up for grabs. And I don’t have to decide now.

What I’m doing instead

During the Chrimbo Limbo I’ve unplugged more than normal. I’ve spent time in the void. The Unmanifest.

This is the quiet inner darkness that holds you safe while you recharge. The place that blocks out the noise so your intuition can be heard and reveal to you your true desires. It’s where ideas can be conceived—or aborted.

We are in the depths of winter. Nature rests, we are meant to do the same. I’ve been very drawn to inky indigo shades during this time—my soul reminding me that now is not the time to go full pelt just because the calendar has ticked over. It’s a time for introspection, for meditation, for self-inquiry.

Un-manifesting isn’t about giving up on your dreams. It’s about letting go of the false desires you’ve accumulated during the past year so that when the light returns you can see exactly where you’re going.

Fade to black…

You don’t have to have it all figured out in January. There’s no rush. Give yourself permission to linger in the void. Emerge when you’re ready.

Then, there’ll be no stopping you.
